Hypnosis as a method or a tool to support mental and physiological health and well-being has a long and partly controversial history. The IFHB’s goal is to encourage the use of hypnotic techniques in therapy and coaching for well being in everyday life.

The IFHB combines a wide range of experiences of hypnosis practitioners with a view to establishing and maintaining a high level of ethical standards in the field. A major focus is the development of advanced guidelines and tools for applied hypnosis on the basis of experience, in combination with scientific research.

The IFHB understands hypnosis as a way to focus individually on people and respect their uniqueness.

The main objective of the institute's scientific work is the objectification of the discourse on hypnosis and to research the effects of hypnosis on people's actions and experiences. Furthermore the institute works towards improving strategies of hypnotic tools for health issues.

Therefore practioners of different professions and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome.

In this context the institute serves as:

  • a forum for a dialogue between science and practitioners

  • a platform to discuss controversial topics concerning hypnosis

  • creative director for innovative problem solutions and strategies for better use of hypnosis in therapy

Key aspects of the institute's work:

  • Linking classical and Ericksonian hypnosis

  • Evolving new hypnotherapeutic strategies

  • Surveys in the area of health and therapy

  • Analysis of hypnotic processes in therapeutical settings
